Objective
After the course the students: - know the theory behind the basic pathological concepts such as adaptation, cell injury, inflammation and neoplasia. - recognize the basic pathological lesions such as adaptation, cell injury, inflammation and neoplasia in histological tissue samples. - know the very basics of neuroanatomy and brain cell types - know the basics of most common neurodegenerative diseases and neoplasia in the brain - know the species-specific differences in the manifestation of the basic pathological lesions (mouse versus human) - understand how mouse can be applied in modelling human diseases. - are able to produce comparative disease model pathology material based on given virtual microscopy samples.
Content
This course covers the following topics: 1. Basic pathological lesion (adatation, cell injury, inflammation and neoplasia) 2. Basics of neuroanatomy and brain cell types 3. Basics of most common neurodegenerative diseases and neoplasia in the brain 4. Mouse versus human comparative pathology
Qualifications
Basic knowledge in histology is essential. Knowledge in differences between mouse and human histology (e.g. the course “Introduction to translational pathology”) is recommended.
