Objective

After completing the course, the student knows the key concepts and theories related to global multiculturalism and understands the importance of global and local in society. The student knows how to examine and promote equality and anti-racist activities in society and to structure theoretical perspectives related to equality and racism. The student knows how to promote an appreciative encounter in interaction and develop his expertise in multicultural work. The student knows how to structure different perspectives on well-being and health in Finnish multicultural society.

Content

The course discusses the theories and perspectives with which global and local are connected in society and what kind of issues of equality arise from this connection. The course examines different ways of promoting equality by influencing structures and developing appreciative encounter in interaction. The course deals with different theoretical approaches to intercultural communication in multicultural work and working communities. In the course, we get to know well-being and health in a multicultural society from the perspectives of research knowledge, professional knowledge and experienced expert knowledge.

Content: Culture, multiculturalism, multicultural society, integration and inclusion, theories of multiculturalism. social work in multicultural society, developing multicultural skills, Immigrant and mental health, tools and methods of cultural competencies.

The student can identify, and define the phenomena and basic concepts related to the global multicultural society.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student structures the relationships between phenomena and concepts related to global and multiculturalism.
The student applies, explains and compares the global and multicultural field and causes of well-being and health in Finnish society.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student understands wide-ranging entities and the relationships between them in a global multicultural society.
The student generalizes and analyzes the global multicultural society as a research object and connects research and phenomena related to multiculturalism.
