Objective

Objectives

• To understand the role of the emergency care chain and emergency care system in the Finnish social welfare and health care service system and to be aware of the basics of legislation governing the inter-authority cooperation and emergency care.
• To know how to use the care technology needed to assess and support the sufficiency of the patient’s vital functions in emergency care and the examination and care equipment. To become proficient in the principles of interviewing patients and carrying out clinical examinations (ABCDE) at the basic level in accordance with and aware of the principles of pair work. To be able to implement evidence-based practice in nursing.
• To know the most common situations where emergency care is needed and assess the patient’s need for emergency care and to define the urgency of the treatment based on the symptoms and findings. To be able to identify the immediate need for care and make a preliminary diagnosis and start the needed treatment.
• To have the command of monitoring and supporting a person’s normal vital functions. To learn the main basic-level examination and care procedures, learn to use related instruments and equipment properly and safely.
• To understand the principles of information management and reporting in emergency care situations To understand the role of electronic service systems in the assessment of a patient’s state and administration of treatment To acquire the skills to communicate in care and consultation situations with the patient and the team participating in the patient’s treatment and to know the basics of VIRVE communications and CRM.
• To have command of the basics of emergency vehicle operations, the operating principles in major accidents and accidents involving multiple patients
• To learn to work ergonomically, promoting the patient’s resources and know aseptic techniques and infection-preventive working methods in an emergency care context.

• Patient interviews and clinical examination (ABCDE)

• Making a preliminary diagnosis and relevant emergency care
• Basic principles of working in pairs and with CRM
• Documentation and reporting of treatment (ISBAR)
• The most common situations that require acute and emergency care and the care provided in them
• Advanced tactical resuscitation protocol in accordance with the Current Care Guidelines
• Pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy in basic emergency care
• The authority network and VIRVE communications in various operational environments
• Competence in classifying injured patients in major accidents and accidents involving multiple patients.
• A work method that promotes the patient’s resources, command of aseptic techniques and ergonomic working methods in emergency care situations
