Objectives
· is able to determine and record the needs of a medical surgical patient, plan and implement treatment, and assess the effects of treatment.
· recognises the changes caused by the illnesses and injuries of medical surgical patients to the patient and their families and friends.
· knows how to apply the methods of medical surgical nursing for individual patients.
· is able to guide and support patients and families in managing health problems as well as general lifestyle changes and rehabilitation required for the treatment of a medical surgical patient.
· can use customer-oriented teaching and guidance methods suitable for the situation to support the patient's commitment to care and self care.
· is familiar with the tasks and responsibilities of different professional groups and the significance of cooperation in maintaining and promoting the functional capacity of a medical surgical patient in a multiprofessional team.

HARJOITTELUJAKSOJEN VAIHTOEHTOINEN SUORITUSTAPA palkallisessa TYÖSUHTEESSA
Työsuhteen tulee vastata harjoittelujakson tavoitteita, sisältöjä ja laajuutta sekä työpaikan pitää soveltua ko. opintojakson harjoittelupaikaksi. Työsuhteen tulee olla kokopäiväinen ja sen tulee kestää yhtäjaksoisesti vähintään viisi kalenteriviikkoa = 8/7op. Opiskelija laatii harjoitteluprosessin mukaisesti tavoitteet, osallistuu väliarviointiin ja loppuarviointiin sekä tekee kliinisen oppimistehtävän kuten ohjatuissa harjoitteluissa. Opiskelija sopii etukäteen tuutor-opettajan kanssa tämän suoritustavan mahdollisuudesta.
Harjoittelusta ei laadita erillistä harjoittelusopimusta, vaan opiskelijalla on työsopimus, jota hän noudattaa ja lisäksi hänellä tulee olla työpaikalla nimetty ohjaaja. Suorituksen tarkistaa ja hyväksyy tuutor-opettaja. Työsuhteessa tehtävä harjoittelujakso on mahdollista myös avoimen AMK:n opiskelijalle.

Opiskelija voi hakea osittaista ahotointia lähihoitajan tutkinnolla tai muulla sotealan tutkinnolla ja sen jälkeisellä riittävällä kokopäivätyöllä opintojakson tavoitteita vastaavassa työpaikassa, joka soveltuu ko. opintojakson harjoittelupaikaksi. Opiskelija voi hakea ahotoinnin kautta sisätauti-kirurgisen potilaan hoitotyö 1 SIKI1, sisätauti-kirurgisen potilaan hoitotyö 2 SIKI 2, mielenterveys- ja päihdepotilaan hoitotyö MIHA ja/tai perusterveydenhuollon/avoterveydenhuollon PETHA/AVOHA harjoittelun lyhentämistä työtodistuksella. Sillä voi lyhentää harjoittelujakson 5 viikosta (7-8 op) 4 viikkoon (7-8 op) eli 40 tuntia harjoittelua. Tämä hyväksytetään tuutoropettajalla.
