Content scheduling

After completing the course, the student

- knows orchestration techniques from Viennese classicism to the beginning of the 20th century
- knows different orchestration styles
- knows how to write in different styles for different compositions
- can hear in his mind the effect of different arrangement solutions
- understand the importance of timbre as a component of structure
- knows how to evaluate his own work and receive feedback
Course content
- the technical possibilities of musical instruments
- the effects of instrument idiomatics on the fabric of music
- auditory analysis of different playing solutions
- the principles of combining instruments
- familiarization with different styles and techniques through analysis, transcriptions and exercises
- orchestration and arranging exercises for different ensembles

The course begins in week 37 and lasts for the whole academic year.

Objective

Tavoitteena on omaksua soitinnustekniikoita wieniläisklassismista 1900-luvun alkuun ja tuntea erilaisia soitinnustyylejä, hallita eri tyylien mukaisia kirjoitustapoja eri kokoonpanoille, ymmärtää sointivärin merkitys rakenteen osatekijänä sekä kehittää sointitajua perinteisten ja modernien keinovarojen käytössä.

Content

- soitinten tekniset mahdollisuudet- soitinidiomatiikan vaikutukset musiikin kudokseen
- kuuloanalyysi erilaisista soitinnusratkaisuista
- soitinten yhteissoinnin ja yhdistämisen periaatteet
- perehtyminen analyysin, transkriptioiden ja harjoitelmien avulla eri tyyleihin ja tekniikoihin
