Content scheduling

Teaching begins with contact lectures on 13.1.2025 at 8:15.

Content objectives:

-The student learns the basics of the importance of representative sampling, measurement, and observation activities in sampling.
-The student understands the role of sampling/observation in the determination and research chain.
-The student can take the most common samples used in environmental monitoring.
-The student can perform the most common water body measurements.
-The student can prepare a sampling plan.
-The course is designed so that the 2 ECTS credits correspond to the Environmental Administration's Water Sampling Certificate training (specialization module: water sampling and measurement).

Objective

- The student learns basics of representative sampling and measuring methods and recognizes the role of sampling and observing in the context of reliability
- The student can take most common samples used in monitoring the state of the environment
- The student can make common measurements in water environment
- The student can make a representative sampling plan

Materials

Materials provided in the course's ItsLearning workspace.

Teaching methods

- Lectures
- Study of learning materials corresponding to the scope of the Water Sampler (specialization module: water sampling and measurement) certification course, along with practical demonstrations.
- Practical exercises in sampling and measurement.
- Advanced exercise in water sampling and measurements

Exam schedules

Details will be specified later.
Retake exams at separately agreed times

International connections

The course follows the practices of innovation pedagogy, where the student's active role and responsibility for completing independent tasks are central. The advanced exercises of the course are closely linked to real-life RDI (Research, Development, and Innovation) project work, examples, and problems (applying theoretical knowledge to practice).

The course topic is strongly connected to environmental sustainability. The course focuses on monitoring, assessing the state of the environment, and the significance of measurement data in societal decision-making.

Completion alternatives

If the student has previously successfully completed the Environmental Administration's Water Sampler certification training, this can be credited as 2 ECTS for the course. A certificate of completion must be presented.

Student workload

The student's workload is approximately 27 hours per credit (5 ECTS).

- Study of knowledge equivalent to the Water Sampler certification (in the course or certification training).
- Advanced exercise (completed independently).
