Sisällön jaksotus

Timing: 11.1.2024-15.3.2024

Contents: Materials technology 3 cr and Steps to Circular Economy 2 cr.
Materials characteristics, materials test methods and circular economy.
Theory will be studied independently in web. The amount of laboratory work is about 20%.

If there are less than 10 participating students, the course will be organized as RDI-version. In that case the tasks will be connected to topical RDI-projects.

Tavoitteet

The participants are able to describe the micro and macro molecular structures’ effect on materials characteristics and behavior and are able to describe the special features of each material. The participants are able to describe the most common material testing methods. The participants are able to describe challenges and solutions of sustainable use and recycling of materials.

Sisältö

The students familiarise themselves with materials characterisation and with the effects of materials properties on material processing and selection. The students learn to execute tensile test. The students increase they understanding of sustainability and circular economy of plastics.

Issues: material groups, terms and concepts, standards, mechanical testing, stress and strain curve, test methods for simulating ageing, thermal analysis, laboratory tests, analysis and reporting, sustainability, resource efficiency and circular economy of plastics.
