The Business Administration curriculum consists of

Basic and professional studies 130-140 ECTS
Optional studies 20-30 ECTS
Practical training 30 ECTS
Bachelor's thesis 20 ECTS
In the basic studies, you will obtain the foundation for your professional competence and the abilities for higher education studies. For example, you will learn the basics of business and marketing operations and you will study language and communication skills. In the professional studies, you will achieve key business competences required for working in different fields of business. For example, you will study modules in marketing, sales, management, and finance. You can also deepen your competence by participating in ongoing development projects.

In the practical training, you will combine the knowledge from the theoretical professional studies with practice as you practice the skills needed in work. The first practical training will take place at the end of the first year of studies. During your studies, you will spend approx. a total of 20 weeks in practical training.

In the thesis, you will increase your abilities to work systematically, solve problems while planning for a long-term project and carrying it out independently. You will learn to acquire and analyze information and apply it into practice, justify your decisions, make conclusions and suggestions for practical development, and document and evaluate the information produced and the methods used.

In the optional studies (20-30 ECTS) you will expand your competences by completing studies which support your career path from the course supply of Turku University of Applied Sciences or other higher education institutions.

Osaamistavoitteet

In professional studies, you will study marketing, sales, management and human resources management. Studies, hands-on projects and working in multicultural teams give you the capability to work in an international environment in a variety of business tasks.

Pedagogiset toimintatavat

Studying business is learner-centered and work-oriented. The teacher’s task is to be a facilitator and coach of learning, helping the student to achieve their professional goals. Active learning methods are used in studying, where the student takes responsibility for their learning and actively participates in the work.
Learning can take place in various learning environments e.g. in traditional courses, business projects.

Arviointi

The focus of evaluation is on competence and its development. Evaluation methods and criteria are used in a versatile way and different perspectives are brought to evaluation. In addition to the teacher’s assessment, peer assessment, self-assessment, or assessment by the client can also be used. One of the goals of evaluation is that the student learns to evaluate their own competence and develop their work.
The evaluation criteria for each course are described in general terms in the study guide and more specifically in the course implementation plan.
Evaluation can be carried out in many different ways and can be based on, for example, exams, assignments and extensive learning tasks or projects. In projects, instead of individual assessment, the product produced by the group together, the success of teamwork, schedule management or innovation can be evaluated.
The grades for the courses are reported as a number from 0 to 5 or as a verbal assessment of pass/fail. In addition, the student or student team often receives oral or written feedback, which helps the student to learn about their own strengths and areas for development.
