Osaamistavoitteet

After completing the course the student
- Understands the mathematical concepts in modeling dynamical state space systems and is able to simulate their time response in MATLAB/Simulink
- Understands the concepts of open loop and feedback control
- Understands the concepts of robustness and optimality in terms of dynamical system response
- Can design PID controllers for simple dynamical systems arising in mechanical engineering (e.g. vibration damping, heat transfer)

Sisältö

This course introduces the students to dynamical systems and their control by computer simulations.
- Simulink basics
- Modeling and simulating state space dynamical systems in Simulink, with emphasis on Linear Time-Invariant (LTI) systems
- Concepts: step response, open loop, feedback, stability, disturbances, modeling errors, parameter drift
- PID control
- Robustness and optimality, with emphasis on PID control
- Learning controller synthesis through brief project assignments.
