Materials

The material published on the learning platform.

Teaching methods

Lectures
Software simulations
Laboratory exercises
Independent and group work.

Exam schedules

The course has no exam.

International connections

Working independently and in groups, as well as gathering information are integral parts of learning. This is supported by the material on the learning platforms, examples during the lectures, simulation exercises and laboratory exercises.

Completion alternatives

Equivalent studies done elsewhere.

Student workload

The course has individual assignments which are done on the learning platform. The course includes one laboratory exercise. The scope of the course (5 ECTS credits) corresponds to approximately 130h work, out of which 30h are contact teaching, 6h are laboratory exercises, and the rest is independent work.

Content scheduling

In this course the students are familiarized with the basics of automation technology. The central goal of the course is to understand the working principles of automation systems, as well as the basic components used.
- Control circuits
- Programmable Logic Controllers
- Sensors and actuators
- Basics in control theory

Further information

All communication with the lecturer is done via email.

Assessment methods and criteria

The grading of the course is based on exercises on the learning platform and performance in lab exercises. More detailed information about the grading is presented in the beginning of the course.

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

The student does not achieve the minimum requirements (see the criteria for grade 1).

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student can explain the basic terminology used in the course, and solve simple tasks related to the course contents.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

In addition to the previous criteria, the student can explain phenomena related to the course content in different applications, and solve tasks related to them.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the previous criteria, the student can combine the course contents to a logical whole, and explain the relationships between different phenomena. The student can also solve demanding tasks related to the subject.
