Objective
The student will have basic knowledge on how to mitigate noise pollution in environmental planning. The student will have good command of the concepts related to noise mitigation as well as the regulations and guidelines, which govern the field. The student will also understand the basic principles of methods related to noise measurements and simulations. The student can identify the requirements of noise mitigation in a real life setting and assess, if and when there is a need for an external noise mitigation expert.
Content
The course comprises of lectures, calculation demos and group works. Contact teaching for the course is 50 hours. Thematic contents include: the basics of acoustics, soundproofing and absorption in buildings, soundproofing of elevations, environmental noise (including propagation, health effects and regulations), noise measurements related to both traffic (road, railway and air) and local noise (e.g. industrial areas, wind power, events). In addition, the course includes measurements and mitigation alternatives related to traffic vibration. The students will also make a study visit to the acoustics laboratory and do group works on noise propagation measurements.
