• Understand the nature and process of health care development, health care research
• Gain proficiency in searching for information and critical evaluation of information
• Know how to create a working life-oriented research and development plan
• Know how to create releases and other documents required in research and development projects
• Know how to act as a nursing expert in various working life-oriented research and development projects
• Be able to recognize the need for counselling and know how to apply counselling in a manner that supports their thesis
• Know how to present their progress as well as to give and receive constructive feedback
• Present the plan of the thesis and serve as an opponent to another student’s thesis as agreed

• Establishing the theoretical background
• Defining the purpose and objective of the thesis and asking guiding questions
