Objective
Practical Training in Basic Level Emergency Care 8 cr PTHStudents will learn to use their knowledge base of emergency nursing to analyse people’s need for care and learn to identify the essential information for each care situation.Students will learn to take responsibility, under supervision, for the systematic examination of patients, recognise abnormalities in the vital signs and identify life-threatening situations, as well as practice making preliminary diagnoses.Students will develop their skills in interacting with patients and creating a respectful nurse-patient relationship.Students will learn to interact professionally and engage in a care relationship with people of different ages and from different cultural backgrounds.Students will learn to apply the key principles of nursing and the methods of basic level emergency care for the purpose of planning and providing care to patients.Students will become familiar with the safe operation of examination, care and transfer devices.Students will learn to follow the work-pair approach.Students will learn the principles of CRM.Students will learn to provide patients and their family members with guidance for promoting health and treating illness.Students will know how to make ethically based decisions in various care situations.Students will understand their responsibility in preventing infections in emergency care and will know how to use aseptic techniques in different treatment situations.Students will improve their competence in basic level pharmacotherapy and can monitor the impacts and effectiveness of pharmacotherapy (medication passport).Students will learn to document and report on the treatment of emergency care patients.Students will learn to communicate professionally in care and consultation situations with the patient and the team participating in the patient’s treatment.Students will become proficient in basic VIRVE communication.Students will be introduced to the unit’s pharmacotherapy plan.
