Objective

The student
-applies advanced level knowledge of palliative nursing to the planning, implementation and assessment of the care.
-works independently and takes responsibility as an advanced nursing practitioner in her/his scope of practice in direct patient care.
-identifies patient’s comprehensive care plan and masters service-counselling principles to respond to the needs of patients and their next of kin.
-consults and /or acts as a consulting expert to other health care professionals and care providers in his/her advanced scope of practice.
-works as palliative care coordinator and educator in his/her advanced scope of practice to professionals working in the region.

Content

Course contents
-Patient groups and their special care needs in palliative and end of life care
-Symptom management, monitoring and assessment of care, evaluation of effectiveness of care and care plan update (management of most common symptoms such as pain, invasive special techniques, emergency situations)
-Systematic implementation of palliative care and nursing (pharmacological therapies and non-pharmacological therapies)
-Systematic implementation of end of life care
-Pharmacology and applied pharmacology in palliative care
-The role of consultant and coordinating nurse in palliative and end of life care
