The primary language of instruction is Finnish, but a substantial part of vocational studies is implemented in English. The operating environment is international and students of the international degree programme as well as exchange students participate in the courses.
Studies concentrate on the special features of medical device development such as regulatory demands. Moreover, students learn the basics of service design and user-centric design and are able to utilize that in the develoment of new health technology innovations. Students will familiraze themselves with utilization of health technology in the social and healthcare sector and learn how to create a requirement analysis and usability assessment. Besides that the studies consist of how to implement new technology.
The extent of the degree programme is 90 ECTS credits. The studies can be completed within 2 years while working full-time and from anywhere in Finland.
The curriculum consists of
• Advanced studies (core competence) 40 cr
• Elective studies (expanding competence) 20 cr
• Master's theses 30 cr.
Advanced studies consist of methodological courses and professional courses expanding your previous studies. Active learning methods are applied. The programme is built on mixed-mode studies including lectures, seminars, e-learning, teamwork and independent work. There are 2 days of contact sessions monthly. With optional studies, you can expand your skills by incorporating courses from your own degree programme or other programmes or from other universities. Elective studies are also offered in the form of fully virtual online teaching.
The Master's thesis (30 ECTS) solves a topical issue or problem related to working life. The topic of the thesis may be related to the development of a new product, service or process, for example. The thesis is carried out as a commission in research, development and innovation projects (RDI) of working life or Turku University of Applied Sciences. You can also acquire the topic from a variety of professional networks, third sector, wellbeing services counties or national research institutes. The thesis is done individually or in pairs. The completion of the thesis requires the ability to work independently and in expert work. In accordance with the tripartite model, the work is carried out in cooperation between the student, the teacher tutor and the working life mentor/contact person throughout the education. As a rule, the guidance is implemented as group guidance in ways agreed with the supervisor/teacher tutor of the thesis.
After graduation, students will be employed to assignments that require technical knowledge, its development and application. After graduation, students will be placed also for example in health technology often are employed in R&D assignements in health technology companies or expert assignements in social and healthcare organizations.

The Master's degree in engineering is a university degree that gives the same eligibility for public positions and duties as, for example, a university degree at a university.
Internationalization starts with the student's own needs according to the task image. An international perspective can be connected with the thesis, for example by participating in an international conference or seminar in the field. An international perspective also contributes to the development of language skills. Much of the source material for study courses and learning assignments comes from international scientific and professional sources.
During studies students can apply for courses at other higher education institutions and include these in a degree. Students can take advantage of CampusOnline's joint online study offer at the polytechnics of Finland. You can find CampusOnline's offer in your study record system Peppi (cross-institutional studies).
The Master's degree programme on health technology is planned and implemented together with the working life. The working life connection is primarily made up of the student, the student's workplace and education. The interaction between students working in different positions plays an important role in the development of professional skills and the creation of collaborative networks. A central part of the Master's studies is the Master’s thesis. The thesis will not only develop your knowledge and skills in a certain study field and specific topic but also gives you the possibility to enhance your skills of leading teams and work groups.
Health technology research group explores and creates human-centric applications, information systems and operation processess that support the life quality, well-being, health and fuctioning of citizens. In the health tech laboratory, solutions for personalized healthcare and patient monitoring are being developed as well as usability testing and assessments for health technology products.
The studies provide eligibility for further scientific studies. Universities may set conditions on granting rights for further studies in the form of, for instance, supplementary transitional studies.
