Objective
The student gains deeper insight into the use and dimensioning of common steel structures. Stiffening of structures and structural members, point load capacity, mullion truss, combined effect of stresses, lateral buckling resistance, loss of stability at torsion, manufacturing, plastic dimensioning.
After a completed subunit, the student is familiar with different steel grades and industrial steel components, the basics of machine shop operations and related quality assurance, drawing techniques, welding methods, and steel surface treatment methods, and is able to produce an installation plan for steel members.
