Objective
When course is completed, student can
- understand the characteristics of biofuels and waste in terms of combustion and emissions, and is familiar with their general combustion technologies
- describe the operational environment on treatment of waste and it’s energy use
- identify the options and impacts of waste to energy and material recovery
- define the effects of different guidance instruments of waste to energy utilization
- know the ecological aspects and environmental law and legislation of bioenergy and waste fuel.
Content
- fuels and their properties; wood and other biomass, biomass to liquid fuels (BTL), gas to liquid fuels (GTL), biogas, recovered fuels (REF), combustion of waste
- combustion technologies; stoker, grate, fluidized bed and gasification combustion
- operational environment, current state and future of a use bioenergy and waste as an energy resource in Finland
- effects of guidance instruments for waste to energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
