Objective
When course is completed, student can
- understand the basic principles, structures and the components of wind and solar energy systems
- make basic design of wind and solar energy system and understand the factors affecting to the system’s energy yield
- understand the basic principles to storage energy, especially in large scale, and their limitations
- understand the sociological and ecological aspects and environmental law and legislation of solar and wind energy production.
Content
- wind energy; turbine types, blade design, efficiency, energy potential and production
- solar energy capture systems; photovoltaics (PV), concentric solar power (CSP) plants and solar thermal (ST) technologies
- energy storage systems; flywheel, batteries, capacitors, CAES, PHPS, SMES, etc.
- fuel cells and hydrogen economy.
