Objectives

Students will

- Be familiar with the fundamental values, legislation, organisation, service production and organisation methods, control and supervision of social welfare and health care in Finland
- Be familiar with the legislation and key participants regarding patient safetyUnderstand the concept of evidence-based operations and its importance in social welfare and health care
- Know of and be able to follow the core social and health care action programmesKnow how to describe the principles of customer-driven activities
- Understand the opportunities that health care technology and digitalisation offer in health careBe familiar with electronic services in social welfare and health careHave insight into the population’s health, functional capacity and well-being, as well as the current challenges and factors affecting themKnow how to make use of existing information (e.g. registers and statistics) regarding population-wide health challenges of individuals and communitiesUnderstand how social decision-making and structures, as well as economic premises influence the promotion of health and functional capacity
- Be familiar with the main regulations and action programmes guiding the promotion of health and functional capacity

- The concepts of customer and patient
- Individuals, families and communities as customers
- Legislation, provision responsibilities, organisation, control and supervision in social welfare and health care services
- Service structures in social welfare and health care: public, private and third-sector Legislation, national guidelines and national and international programmes related to the promotion of health and well-being
- Special features of health-care customer relationships
- The rights and responsibilities of customers in selecting and developing service systems
- Recommendations Forms of entrepreneurship in social and health services
- Electronic health care services and technology, their special features and ability to meet the population’s health care needs
- Data protection and data security
- Statutory obligations regarding the safety of health care
