Objective

Basic level emergency care 5 cr PTEHObjectives: The Student shall be able to- describe emergency care and the emergency care system as part of medical rescue work, know the prioritization in emergency care and the significance of the sub phases in the emergency care chain and their dependency of each other- on the basic level of emergency care, examine the patient, recognize the needs of emergency care, make a preliminary working diagnosis and give the needed treatment as well as document it and report it - ask for treatment instructions at need - use the authorities network and the VIRVE telephone - master different kinds of situations requiring acute and emergency care and can identify and predict health problems or health threats to the individual caused by them- recognize people’s individual needs of help, and how to define the need of emergency care and nursing on the basis of them, and are able to nurse the patient in emergency care situations demanding immediate treatment - increase their skills in the medication and infusion of fluids on the basic level of emergency care- work aseptically preventing infections in emergency care situations- work ergonomically and promote the patient’s resources- master the basic level patient interview and examination - recognize the immediate need for help of a emergency patient, and the urgency of care on the basis of symptoms and signs- use the examination and treatments methods needed in immediate emergency care in order to support and assess the sufficiency of the patient’s vital functions- master basic resuscitation and know how to lead a resuscitation situation- document emergency care work according to procedure- describe the Finnish emergency care system and the legislation guiding emergency care, and know the regional and nationwide guidelines- describe the co-operation parties and their significance in emergency care- describe their own role as experts in emergency care and nursing in the work which promotes sustainable development and environmental health- describe the emergency centre functions- describe with tactical emergency care as part of co-operation with the authorities- extinguish small fires in emergency situations - describe rescue methods, know how to stabilize a vehicle in an accident situation and know how to nurse and shield the patient while the vehicle is being taken apart and knows how to ensure the safety of a site- describe the viewpoints pertaining to driving emergency vehicles- describe the principles of operative leadership and familiarise themselves with the leadership roles in medical rescue work
