Osaamistavoitteet

During the Bioinnovation course, the students work in teams to create new solutions for resolving challenges that business clients from the bioscience, biomedicine and pharmacy fields have faced. The student teams work towards creating innovative ideas or solutions with a business plan and marketing strategy. After the course, the students: - are familiar with the concepts of entrepreneurship and innovation within the bioscience, biomedicine, and pharmaceutical fields - have obtained a practical view of the steps from initial innovation idea to launching the final product - have a better understanding of the skills required for working life in the industry - have developed their ability to apply theoretical knowledge to problem-solving - have developed their project management skills During the course the students will develop the following general skills: - learn and experience the innovation process in practice - enhance their teamwork skills - work on their presentation skills

This course covers the following topics: - Introduction to innovation and entrepreneurship - Idea generation - Business model and funding - Product development - Validation of the innovation - Commercialization - Sell your idea – pitching in practice

Esitietovaatimukset

- Target group for this course is 3rd year BSc students, MSc students, and PhD students - Participation in this course requires basic knowledge in biosciences (120 sp of BSc studies)

- Self-correcting quizzes need to be completed and approved– 20 % of the final grade - Pitch videos have to be completed and approved – 30 % of the final grade - Final project report will be worked on throughout the course and needs to be approved – 50% of the final grade

The course is taught fully online for 13 weeks. It contains 5 learning modules and project work, which is done in teams (4-5 students/team). After each module, the students can update their reports and get feedback from teachers. The intermediate results of the project work are presented in a pre-recorded pitch video. *** What is expected from students during this course: - Watch the video lectures and read any additional provided material - Test your knowledge with self-correcting quizzes - Write a report with the team throughout the course - Test your pitching skills - Contribute to a teamwork - Have an open mind
