Programme description

The aim of the study programme is to train diverse business experts and work life developers. Students with Bachelor of Business Administration degrees are employed to various business management, development, management and managerial positions or alternatively become self-employed as entrepreneurs.

The core competence of the degree is formed by the operation and development of companies and organizations. The following areas of expertise are emphasized in the study programme: customer, financial, work community and international competence, and RDI.

Structure of the study programme
At the beginning of the studies, students become familiar with the basics of business and the communication and language skills as well as networking skills required in the business field. As the studies progress, students deepen their core business expertise, such as customer expertise, financial expertise, work community competence, international competence and RDI expertise, as well as advanced studies in students’ own competence path. The path is selected at the end of the first year studies.

At the advanced stage, the student specializes in one of the following competence paths:
• business development
• financial management

The study programme includes work placements and elective courses designed to support and complement students’ own individual study plan and deepen their professional skills. The thesis also deepens the students’ skills and professional orientation.
Blended study consists of both contact and distance lessons, and online studies. Blended studies require the ability to study independently, as contact lessons will be held approximately 2 days per month. During the distance study periods, students work independently with various learning tasks.

Career prospects
Upon graduation, the graduate can work in expert, development, or managerial positions or alternatively set up own business.

After the Bachelor degree in Business Administration, the graduate will be able to complete a Master of Business Administration or other appropriate university degree in his / her own field.

Competence objectives

For students, the study programme provides the basic knowledge and skills needed in the labor market as well as the ability to continually develop their own skills. The aim of the programme is to provide the skills to develop a wide range of professional skills that are required in working life, such as leadership, teamwork and networking skills, critical thinking skills, and creativity. The aim is that the graduate has excellent communication and language skills and prerequisites for being up-to-date with the development in the field.

Students can acquire in-depth knowledge in the competence path studies.
Business Development studies include brainstorming and designing customer and future-oriented operating environments by utilizing various business development methods. Topics arise from the companies’ and organizations’ needs and the aim is to develop practical solutions.

Studies in Financial Management competence path provides skills for a wide range of financial management tasks in companies. Key topics include good accounting practices, corporate taxation, payroll management, and different accounting practices for internal accounting. The studies are designed to support the completion of the Accounting expert (KLT) degree.

Pedagogic approaches

Studying is a blended studies that takes place in the form of contact hours and distance learning as well as online studies. It is possible to adapt the curricula to students’ own competence goals, thus ensuring the development of their own competence and lifelong learning. Various learning and development tasks are linked to the real environment; to their own work, to organizations or to companies. In these tasks, the student is an active participant, considering different challenges and solutions and applying them as far as possible into practice. Teachers work as tutors that support the student's learning process throughout the studies.

Students may also take their studies at other Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences in Finland or abroad and these studies may be included to the degree. Opportunities for international student exchanges are good and also practical training abroad is supported. Each student has a teacher tutor who helps in the design of the studies.

Assessment

The evaluation focuses on know-how and its development. The evaluation methods and criteria are widely used as well as different perspectives. In addition to the assessment made by the teacher, peer review, self-assessment or evaluation by the client can be used. One objective of the assessment is that students learn to evaluate their own skills and develop their work.

Evaluation can be done in many different ways and can be based on, for example, exams, assignments and extensive learning tasks or projects. The evaluation criteria for each course are described in general terms in the study guide and in more detail in the course implementation plan.

The grade of the study units is reported as 0-5 or accepted / rejected. In addition, the student or student group often receives oral or written feedback that will help students acknowledge their own strengths and development goals.
