ACUTE, EMERGENCY AND INTENSIVE CARE NURSING 5 ECTS AKTE
Objectives
• Students will learn to describe the emergency care system and services in the context of specialized health care, the levels of emergency care and the role of and interdependency between different stages of emergency care
• Students will gain proficiency in the main treatment methods of emergency and acute nursing, treatment-related technology and the creation of a safe care environment
• Students will learn to interview and examine patients in emergency and acute care situations, identify the need for acute care, administer, document and report the required treatment and evaluate the actual treatment process
• Students will learn to use the VIRVE phone as a communication device for emergency and acute care and know how to describe inter-authority cooperation from the perspective of emergency and acute care
• Students will learn to safely administer pharmacotherapy to emergency and acute care patients
• Students will know how to assess customers’ need for and urgency of treatment in acute care and reception work and will be able to make independent decisions, while identifying their limits and using consultation for support
• Students will learn to cooperate with customers and their social networks and other people involved
• Students will gain proficiency in CRM
• Students will be able to carry out the clinical examinations and treatment measures belonging to the job description of nurses and draw the necessary conclusions
• Students will learn to provide customers with personalized guidance and support for self-care and health promotion

• Students will deepen their knowledge of age-related policies, the service system for the elderly and nursing for the elderly.
• Students will understand how the physiology of ageing and age-related changes are linked to the manifestations of illness and problems related to treatment.

The course focuses on the themes of mental health and substance abuse work.
The course includes the following themes:
- The importance of well-being at work in supporting mental health
- Suicidal customer
- Minority and particularly vulnerable persons
- International and national topical methods and projects in mental health, RDI integration
- Advanced competence in mental health and substance abuse work for people of different ages
The course is implemented based on weekly changing themes. The course also includes independent study.
The course is implemented entirely zoom.

• understands the service system for mental health and substance abuse nursing and is able to work in multidisciplinary networks
• understands the significance of project work as part of promoting mental health work.
• knows how to recognise and manage the process of treating a mental health and substance abuse patient.
• recognises key mental health and substance abuse disorders and knows the starting points for their treatment.
• understands the significance of ethical guidelines, values, principles and laws as factors guiding the activities in mental health and substance abuse care work.
• knows how to use mental health and substance abuse nursing methods in compliance with the principles of recovery orientation.
• understands the significance of care relationship work and work guidance and is able to support and guide patients and their families and friends.

MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE NURSING 7 ECTS MIHA
Objectives
Students will
• Know how to determine the mental health/substance abuse care needs of patients, in order to plan and administer care, and to evaluate its effectiveness
• Learn to interact with and help customers/patients of different ages, as well as their family members
• Become familiar with the methods used in mental health and substance abuse nursing, the nurse-patient relationship and the work pair approach, as well as learn to use supervision of work as a way to support professional development.
• Learn to analyse how their own values and attitudes influence their interaction with customers/patients of different ages and their professional interaction
• Understand the ethics of nursing and base their actions on current knowledge
• Increase their pharmacotherapy competence in mental health and substance abuse nursing (medication passport)
• Learn to document information about the treatment of mental health and substance abuse patients
