Objective

Professional Communication Skills, 5 cr
The studies will be offered partly in Finnish and partly in English
OBJECTIVES
Students will
- Learn to communicate their expertise
- Learn to plan and carry out work-oriented internal communication and media communication
- Learn to critically analyse texts and produce various text types
- Learn to use professional communication for networking purposes

Content

CONTENTS
- Strategic communication planning
- Internal project communication and project procedures
- Online communication and the Internet in competence marketing
- Informative and reporting text types

Course is implemented fully online in Optima.

Materials

All course material can be found in Itslearning course environment.

Teaching methods

Team work, process writing, online learning and utilising digital tools, marketing one's own expertise in English, searching for relevant information, writing online text in Finnish and in English.

Student workload

The course is 5 credits which equals approximately 135 hours of student work consisting of group and individual assignments.

All course assignments need to be completed according to given instructions and returned by the deadline.

Content scheduling

This course offers you a chance to study professional communication skills in multidisciplinary virtual teams.
The course is for Master's degree students, and it is implemented fully online during 5.9.2022 - 28.11.2022.
During the course, you can develop your online communication skills in Finnish and in English. The course work consists of team activities and independent assignments. Further information can be found in Itslearning course environment.

The course starts on 5.9.2022 with an introductory assignment in Itslearning online learning environment.

Kick-off Zoom meeting on 12.9.2022 at 14:00 -15:30.
Mid-course Zoom meeting on 24.10.2022 at 14:00 -15:30.
Article feedback meeting on 7.11.2022 during klo 12:00 - 15:30 according to a team specific timetable which will be informed at the start of the course.

The meeting invitation will be sent to the course participants after the enrolment period.

Further information

Some of the course assignments are completed in Finnish and some of the assignments are completed in English.

NB!
Student places are divided between Turku University of Applied Sciences and other Universities of Applied Sciences:
Max 20 Master level students are accepted from Turku University of Applied Sciences, and
Max 20 Master level students are accepted from other Universities of Applied Sciences.

Total: 40 students.

Technical requirements for the course:
You need to be able to join online meetings and use collaborative online tools chosen by your virtual team e.g. Google tools/ OneDrive. You also need to be able to record team sessions (e.g. headset, an integrated camera).

Assessment methods and criteria

The course is graded on a scale: pass/ fail.

All course assignments must be completed according to the given criteria and deadlines following a specific schedule provided at the start of course. Active participation in teamwork is required from all course participants. Some assignments require peer and self-reflection.

The course will be graded by 12.12.2022.
