Large painting studio, Turku Arts Academy
Objective
The students will be able to
• apply oil-based techniques in their expression
• analyse and compare the effect of different binders on the painting process and observe the health and safety and environmental aspects when working with solvents
• apply colour theory in practice
• apply historical knowledge about oil painting techniques and modes of expression.
• understand the qualities of different pigments and their applications in painting.
Content
The students’ learn about the history and theory of oil-soluble methods and practise the potential of the techniques as part of their expression.
The courses are completed as course assignments, in which the students will explore the different aspects of oil painting and the modes of expression.
The students are expected to actively participate in instruction and feedback discussions and to complete the course assignments to the required standard.

Lähiopetus; tekniikkademonstraatiot, tehtäväperusteiset sisältökeskustelut ja ohjatut harjoitustyöt, luennot sekä ryhmäkeskustelut
Pedagogic approaches and sustainable development
Opiskelija työskentelee reflektoiden ja keskustellen ateljeekierrolla ja katselmuksissa. Ateljeekierto on kuvataiteen pedagoginen toimintatapa, jossa opettaja kiertää opiskelijoiden työpisteellä ja antaa kehittämisehdotuksia opiskelijan maalaustyöskentelyyn.
Student workload
Oppilas tekee harjoitustyöt öljyväritekniikan eri menetelmillä sekä osallistuu viikoittaisiin luentotilaisuuksiin ja osoittaa neljän viikon aikana hallitsevansa ammattimaisen työskentelyn.
Evaluation methods and criteria
In the end of the workshop there will be final talk with the whole team where students by talk and prints show their mastery to the subject.

Further information
Opiskelija saa opintojaksolla perusmateriaalit, kuten maalauksen pohjamateriaaleja sekä yhteiskäytössä olevia maalinesteitä ja öljyvärejä. Opiskelijan on kuitenkin varauduttava hankkimaan itse siveltimensä, palettiveitsen, paperilautasia paleteiksi, muovihansikkaita, mäntysuopaa siveltimien pesuun sekä mahdollisesti gessoa pohjustukseen.
