Objective

The aim of the course is to develop basic language skills in accordance with the European Framework of Reference to the skill level A2.
Students can cope rather well with everyday communication situations and are increasingly able to be initiative in a communication situation.

Content

After completing the course, the student
- knows how to exchange thoughts or information in familiar and everyday situations
- copes with short social situations and knows how to use the most common polite greetings and forms of addressing
- is able to make politely, for example, requests, invitations, suggestions and apologies
- understands the topic and core content of short, simple messages
(e.g., advertisements, brochures, menus, and schedules)
- is capable of simple reasoning supported by context
- is able to tell things that are related to everyday life and that are important to themselves, using simple phrases and concrete vocabulary (family, shopping, place of residence, workplace, etc.)
- is able to write short and simple notes and messages related to everyday needs
- masters an easily predictable basic vocabulary and many of the most important structures

Exam schedules

You'll find the detailed instructions in 'itslearning'. The assignments returned by deadline will be one part of evaluation.

There will be an oral exam in the end of the course.

International connections

Online-meetings, working independently on the learning space 'itslearning', group work / pair work.

To have a significant track or trace of the learned material, you should use the language. That is why some of the assignments will happen outside of the lessons.

Content scheduling

The aim of the course is to learn basic knowledge of Finnish focusing especially on the student´s practical language of everyday life.
The course Finnish 1 consists of online lessons, starting 18.1. 2021, distance learning, assignments in the learning space 'itslearning', and an oral exam. You will find the instructions for distance work and assignments in itslearning.
The objective of the course is to gain basic knowledge in Finnish language at the CEFR level A 2.
You are able to use most important expressions in common everyday situations.
After passing the course you are able to
• tell about your life, hobbies and studies orally and in writing
• manage short discussions in everyday situations
• ask questions, make suggestions and requests as well as denials
• read short texts and gain information from e.g. instructions and schedules.
write short, simple messages like e-mails

To be able to participate on this course, you should have knowledge of minimum A1 in Finnish.

Assessment methods and criteria

The final grade 0 - 5 is formed by the assignments returned and the final oral exam, but also the activity on the course will affect the evaluation, like attending on the lessons min. 80%.

Qualifications

Participation in the course requires at least proficiency level A1 in Finnish.
