The course is online course.

Two online study sessions will be organized:
14.2. Introduction
21.3. Group assignment presentations

In this course you familiarize yourself with the practices of waste management from workplace safety to transportation. The main goal is to understand the usual daily practices of operational waste management. You will also get information about waste legislation in the EU and learn to understand waste management in the developing countries.

Objective

The student:
1. Understand the principles of waste legislation and
2. Recognize the need for legislative incentives
3. Recognizes the roles of different operators and the best practices of operational waste management.
4. Understand the social and environmental impacts of waste management globally
5. Practice work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team
6. Practice think in a customer-oriented way
7.Practice to act independently using external networks and resources to manage a work successfully

Content

In this course you'll familiarize yourself with the practices of waste management from workplace safety to transportation. The main goal is to understand the usual daily practises of operational waste management. You will also get information about waste legislation in the EU get understanding the waste management in the developing countries.

Material includes articles, guidebooks, strategies and real-life examples from EU, waste management organizations, researchers and companies.

Evaluation methods and criteria

In order to pass the course all tasks must be returned within deadlines.

Course grade will be determined by the following way:

Group assignment 40% (30% teacher’s assessment and 10% peer assessment)
Learning report 2 10%
Self & peer review 20%

Student has not returned tasks within deadlines.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

Student poorly understands the social and environmental impacts of waste management globally.
Student has shortcomings in their independent work management and use of external networks and resources. Student has difficulties to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Student understands the social and environmental impacts of waste management globally. Student practices to act independently using external networks and resources to manage a work successfully. Student practices to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Student excellently understands the social and environmental impacts of waste management globally. Student acts independently using external networks and resources to manage a work excellently. Student works excellently in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team.
