Content scheduling

The course starts in week 35 (31.8.2018) and runs until week 41 (15.10.2018). The course consists of five themes which are introduced in the first 5 weeks of the course
•Theme 1: the process of writing
•Theme 2: Academic Writing: characteristics and principles
•Theme 3: Sentence Structure
•Theme 4: Paragraph and Essay Structure
•Theme 5: Avoiding plagiarism
•Theme 6: Using sources

Objective

After the course, the student is able to
- understand and apply the process of writing
- understand and apply paragraph and essay structures
- understand, recognise, and apply basic principles of writing academic English
- reference and cite sources and avoid plagiarism.

own work/study: 53h (3h x 6 Themes: studying the material and theme-related tasks, 35 h: working on the Individual Writing Assignment)

Evaluation methods and criteria

1. The student needs to complete all the tasks/ assignments by the end of the course (15.10.2018)in order to pass the course.

2. The eight tasks of this course yield 15 points and each task has its own objectives and can yield 0-2 points.

3. Tasks submitted late (after the given deadline) are marked as complete but do not yield any points. Short deadline extensions may be negotiated with the course teacher well in advance of the original task deadline.

3. The student needs to collect at least 6 points and submit an essay to pass with grade 1.

grade 1: 6- 7 points

grade 2: 8 - 9 points

grade 3: 10 - 11 points

grade 4: 12 - 13 points

grade 5: 14 - 15 points
