Objective

The aim of the course is to develop the students’ communication skills in demanding spoken and written communicative situations in working life. The course will give the students skills and confidence to create and share information as a professional in global business.
After the course, students are able to
- Write to inform, influence and persuade by making use of field-specific sources
- Share information in a field-specific community as part of a professional profile
- Present information to create interest and to convince an audience
- Make use of modern communication tools used in working life
- Communicate in English as a professional in academic and business contexts.

Personal choice depending on research topic (Contemporary topics in Dig Bus course); support material provided on the course platform

Individual work; Research, reporting and presenting in pairs and groups; Online meetings in groups and individually.

Exam schedules

No examinations. Student can re-attempt the course by completing the missing parts of the course within one month of the course end.

Completion alternatives

Student can complete the course by utilising the materials on the course and implementing theory in practice in an authentic case in the workplace. Student must present the outcomes of the research and study in the course learning environment in the required format to share expertise. Student must take part in communicating and meeting with teachers/team members in a chosen digital platform(s).

Self, peer and teacher feedback and assessment; report, presentation, reflective essay on personal communication, attendance in online meetings.

Student did not complete required course assignments that show competence in course topics, did not participate in the online meetings to showcase competence in course topics or take an active part in the course to share expertise and learn from others.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student shows ability to communicate in demanding situations requiring professional business communication skills but the style, register, vocabulary are somewhat limited.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student demonstrates adequate ability to communicate in demanding professional business situations. The student is able to give and receive constructive feedback on personal communication competence in team-based contexts.The student is able to give well-argued reflection on the learning process

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to analyse and react appropriately in field-specific communicative situations. The student is able to adapt and adjust his/her communication style and suggest ways of improving the communication in different demanding professional situations. Well-argued feedback to others and on personal reflection
