Throughout the whole teaching process of LMA there will be different approaches towards the material.
- Contact teaching on place (Taideakatemia, Linnankatu)
- individual practical exercising in the dance space
- reading and writing assignment as homework
- group discussions and reflection

Student workload

Movement Observation Task (max.2x 90 min. in school/90 min.home)
- learning to note observation with the help of a “coding sheet” (theory in class)
- class work: observing in partner work – observations of the other’s moving
- method: ticking – quantity/ amount of seen parameters of Bartenieff Fundamentals (Principles, Basic 6, Developmental patterns)
- class discussion/ reflection
- homework:
a) choreographing a warming up series of exercises (max.5) choosing from Bartenieff Fundamentals material
b) videotaping the own moving of the movements
c) noting (words) self-observation of doing/ sensing/proprioceptive
d) noting observations (coding sheet) after watching self on video
e) written reflection (100-150 words)

Movement observation by using the system of Bartenieff Fundamentals
- applying theory and practice of Bartenieff Fundamentals
- Biography Irmgard Bartenieff: in reference to history/dance history
- learning proprioceptive observation (sensing self), learning extroceptive observation (outer impulses convert to inner /awareness/ notion)


Movement observation in reference to the system of Laban Movement Analysis
- Biography Rudolf Laban: in reference to history/ dance history
- Space: general space, personal space (Kinesphere), approach to kinesphere, use of dimensions
- Effort: Effort factors and Effort elements
- Relationship: degrees of relationship
- Phrasing: body parts, moving in space

Movement notation
- Learning the “Movement Alphabet”: Motif Notation – a simplified notation for writing down movement observations
