FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING SCIENCE, ETHICS, AND EVIDENCE-BASED NURSING 5 CR HOFI

Objectives

The student will
• be familiar with the key concepts, values, ethical principles, and national and international guidelines in nursing
• know how to apply the values and ethical principles of nursing in nursing care, health care services and digital services
• be familiar with evidence-based practice in nursing
• know how to search for information using the most common health sciences databases

Content scheduling

Weeks 9-14

It is mandatory to attend the INFO class in order to get all the course information and small groups.

If you are sick, inform the teacher and ask your friend to act as your "advocate" in class (he/she tells informs you what was discussed and agreed upon in the info, about small groups and your parts in group work). The representative answers in the roll call that he/she represents him/her)

Assessment methods and criteria

4 cr (4 x 27h) = 108 h
1 credit is 27 hours of student work:

Learning café and Learning diary (1 cr) approved/ failed
Nursing science and evidence-based practice (1 cr) group assignment to be made during a lesson approved/ failed approved/ failed
Seminar report and presentation (1 cr) numeral evaluation 0-5
Exam (1 cr) numeral evaluation 0-5

The students input and participation in the group work may have an effect on the individual grade.
The course grade is the average of the numeral evaluations.

Assessment criteria, fail (0)

-Missing tasks, missing participation(s). Tasks are late or they are not finished according to instructions

Student:
-Does not demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the contents of the course: evidence-based nursing, information management and ethical activities in health care.
-Does not show sufficient ability to understand, apply, justify or evaluate the knowledge base or they are incorrect
Networking:
-Domestic and international scientific knowledge, skills and networks relevant to the course have not been sufficiently utilized or applied in the work.
Cooperation and teamwork:
-Cooperation has not been done constructively
-The student is not able to understand, apply and evaluate his own knowledge and activities from the perspectives of nursing ethical guidelines and good practices
-Own views and solutions have been evaluated very incompletely.
Purposefulness and critical thinking:
-Does not participate and doesn't take responsibility for his learning.
-Does not challenge himself and stays in his own comfort zone.
-Does not evaluate his own skills and activities

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

-Demonstrates versatile knowledge of extensive evidence-based nursing, information management and ethical activities in healthcare.
-Demonstrates the ability to understand, apply and evaluate the knowledge base and to justify and evaluate activities based on it.
Networking:
-Domestic and international knowledge, know-how and networks relevant to the study course have been utilized and applied in various ways in the work.
Cooperation and teamwork:
-Cooperation has been done constructively.
-The student understands, knows how to apply and is able to evaluate his own competence and activities from the perspectives of the ethical guidelines and good practices of his professional field.
-Own views and solutions have been evaluated reliably and critically.
