PART 1 INTRODUCTION TO SUSTAINABILITY

Objective

After completing the course, the student can

PART 2 INTERNATIONAL PROJECT WORK
The expert materials presented in the face-to-face lectures will consist of free-form materials and lecture slides distributed to students.
Written learning materials will be based on literature available in Finna and on topical articles on the subject. Reading lists and materials will be published on the course's Teams channel and Itslearning

Teaching methods

PART 1 INTRODUCTION TO SUSTAINABILITY 15.1.2024-31.3.2024
Mainly self-paced, online learning in ITSlearning.
All necessary learning material is available online or can be retrieved online as the course progresses.
Working methods include independent exploration of topics and collaborative discussion (on an electronic platform, not requiring simultaneous discussion) of your own observations and learning.

PART 2 INTERNATIONAL PROJECT WORK (jointly with HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, Gilbert Silvius, April - May 2024)
Mainly online (MS TEAMS!) in international and multidisciplinary groups, group meetings on campus 12-13 April, visit to Utrecht (=Contact teaching days: 12-13 April in Turku & 17 May in Utrecht (HU, Gilbert Silvius).
- Self-directed learning based on written material
Learning tasks:
- Pre-assignment
- Individual assignment

- Referring to and giving peer feedback on learning tasks returned by other students
- Responding to and discussing queries related to the learning tasks as appropriate

The course will follow the guidelines of innovation pedagogy.
The course is divided into two parts:

PART 1 INTRODUCTION TO SUSTAINABILITY
Mainly independent, self-paced studying in ITSlearning. The section will end with a collaborative discussion (on an electronic platform, does not require simultaneous discussion) on the findings and learning.
The language of instruction is English.

PART 2 INTERNATIONAL PROJECT WORK
The course is run jointly with HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, Gilbert Silvius & students)
The language of instruction is English.
The learning environment is MS Teams.
An orientation task is used to prepare for the face-to-face training.

Part of the face-to-face teaching is teacher-led and teacher-guided discussion. The purpose of this part is to maximise the shared knowledge and understanding of the issues discussed between the group of students, the teachers and any expert guests.

The pedagogical model for the group task is problem-based learning. Students will work in international small groups and each group will critically examine real-life work projects in the light of the topics covered in the course. The group work will be finalised in a joint meeting, which will also reflect on the learning as a group.

The individual assignment will be a comprehensive written work related to the themes of the course.

Student workload

The course will be implemented as a blended learning course with 135 h of student work.
PART 1 INTRODUCTION TO SUSTAINABILITY about 55h mainly independent work
PART 2 INTERNATIONAL PROJECT WORK approximately 80h mainly virtual group work.

Turku visit by Utrecht students on 12.-13.4.
Utrecht visit by Turku students on 17.5.

Completion of the Project life cycle management module
