Content scheduling
The aim of the course is to familiarise students with intellectual property rights (trademark, design right, patent, copyright) from a textile business perspective. The course will examine,
- what a trademark/design right/utility model right is
/patent/copyright,
- how intellectual property rights come into existence, cease to exist
- what rights the right holder has,
- how rights are transferred (e.g. transfer of rights (licensing), sale)
- how the right is enforced,
- the consequences of infringing rights.
Examples of the use of intangible rights in the textile sector: e.g. trademarks in brand building (value proposition), marketing, licensed manufacturing, etc.
Designer's point of view: the designer in an employment relationship, how can the designer's creations be used in business; how can the designer's creations be reworked?
Photographer's copyright: use of images in design work (personal use/sharing).
Use of patents and patent databases.
