Objective

The aim of the course is to develop basic language skills in accordance with the European Framework of Reference to the skill level A2.
Students can cope rather well with everyday communication situations and are increasingly able to be initiative in a communication situation.

Content

After completing the course, the student
- knows how to exchange thoughts or information in familiar and everyday situations
- copes with short social situations and knows how to use the most common polite greetings and forms of addressing
- is able to make politely, for example, requests, invitations, suggestions and apologies
- understands the topic and core content of short, simple messages
(e.g., advertisements, brochures, menus, and schedules)
- is capable of simple reasoning supported by context
- is able to tell things that are related to everyday life and that are important to themselves, using simple phrases and concrete vocabulary (family, shopping, place of residence, workplace, etc.)
- is able to write short and simple notes and messages related to everyday needs
- masters an easily predictable basic vocabulary and many of the most important structures

Teaching methods

When you also use Finnish outside of class, your language skills will increase and strengthen. Activity in your doing of the weekly exercises will lead you to a powerful basement of Finnish.

Content scheduling

After the course
- your pronunciation is understandable
- you will be able to understand short messages, simple speech and follow the discussion about your own life and family
- you know how to start and end a short dialogue
- you will master basic vocabulary and many key structures
- you will understand the main ideas of short texts
- you are able to write short, simple messages
- you can use specific vocabulary related to basic needs

Participation in the course requires at least A1 proficiency in Finnish.

The lessons will be held on Kupittaa campus according to the schedule!

H-5

Assessment methods and criteria

The final grade from 0 to 5 is based on the tasks submitted, activity on the lessons and proven language skills on required level. Only tasks returned on schedule will qualify for full points. If your assignments are not completed during the course, register for the next implementation.

Participation in the lessons (80%) is necessary for evaluation and required to get a grade.

Qualifications

Participation in the course requires at least proficiency level A1 in Finnish.
