Content scheduling

The course introduces the basics of automation technology, producing documentation for an imagined project. The course has the opportunity to continue the further refinement of the plan implemented simultaneously with the next course of this course with automation programming in the school's laboratory environment.
Let's draw adjustment diagrams on the autocad platform
let's get to know the differences between the project's PI diagram and the control diagram
Let's learn picture reading and improve picture reading skills
Let's familiarize ourselves with the contract material and its creation

The course will be implemented in the autumn term of 2024
Lessons in double lessons every other week

Objective

The objective of the course is to introduce the student to the methodology, standards, and software programs used in the design of automation systems. After completing the course, the student:
- Can design an automation system
- Can implement an automation system with suitable sensors and controls
- Can use CAD-software to create automation drawings and diagrams
- Can create documentation of an automation project according to standards

Content

1. Wiring diagrams
2. Piping and Instrumentation diagrams
3. Sensors
4. Creating automation drawings
5. Documentation of automation projects

Materials

The learning material is an example material in the ITS-learning environment, within the framework of which the action diagrams are further refined.
The student needs his own computer with which it is possible to work with autocad software.
The software can be obtained through the school with a student license for student work. Other work with a learner's license is prohibited.

Teaching methods

We learn by trying and doing.
Returning the produced material and receiving feedback during the joint lessons so that the material can be so-called professional material.

Exam schedules

There are no exams in the course. Assignments are returned at a good quality level and within the schedule, in which case the course is considered completed.
It is not possible to retake the implementation.

International connections

Knowledge of automation technology helps to understand the logic of the systems' operation, which can be used in the future within the framework of one's own work to improve and optimize the efficiency of the systems.

Completion alternatives

Prompting according to the instructions of Turku amk at the initiative of the student.
The automation plans made in a business environment, which are demonstrably made by the person themselves and are sufficiently wide-ranging, can be regarded as substitute competence.
The course does not have an alternative implementation method.

Student workload

5 credits = 135 hours of student work
Student assignments are returnable assignments that are intended to be returned personally to the learning environment in accordance with the instructions. During the lessons, qualitative improvement tips are sought from the materials and from the teacher.
The assigned returnable tasks must be completed within the deadlines in order for the performance to be accepted.

Qualifications

- Automaatiotekniikan perusteet
- Säätö- ja ohjaustekniikka
- Kiinteistöautomaatio
