Content scheduling
Individual learning in Teams, Group work, Workshops, Project meetings, Project work
Objective
The participants are able to plan and execute processing and analysis of a plastic/composite material. The participants are able to describe and use plastics processing techniques and are able to select suitable plastic materials and manufacturing processes as well as pre- and post-processing technologies for different products. The participants are able to choose appropriate analysis techniques for materials’ characterization. The participants are able to describe the role of rheology in plastics processing.
Content
The students familiarise themselves with pre- and post processing techniques of plastics. The students work in projects in teams and learn to plan and execute processing and characterisation of a plastics or composite material. The students familiarise themselves with processing possibilities in TUAS lab and learn to select the most suitable techniques for their case. The students deepen their understanding of melt behavior of plastics. The yearly implementation is based on topical RDI-project.
Issues: Pre- and post processing techniques, plastics processing and analysis, rheology.
Teaching methods
Project based learning, task based learning, research, literature study, web based material, learning by doing
Pedagogic approaches and sustainable development
International studies, Team learning, Co-teaching, Based on working-life needs, Project work, Digi-learning, Laboratory working
Student workload
Learning cafés and presentations: Pre- and post processing technologies
Plastics processing and trialling: Extrusion, injection moulding, 3D-printing, thermal compression
Reporting of laboratory work
The students measure their workload by keeping record of working hours. Total hours 5 x 26,7
Evaluation methods and criteria
The assessment is based on Project working and presentations.
The assessment is based on Chemical Engineering's "Criteria of assessments" -document.
Final grade consists of:
Processing of Plastics Lab Task 60 %
Pre-Processing of Plastics 20 %
Post-Processing of Plastic Product 20 %
Laboratory work and general attitude towards (team)work +-
Failed (0)
One or more documentation is missing.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
All documentation returned and presented.
Reporting is written at the level, where the reader can figure out at general level the work that has been done in the project but could not replicate it.
Team is working towards goals but requires a lot of support.
The progress of the work is poorly communicated to the owner.
Relevant theory can not be found from the reporting.
Team is able to run the trials needed during the project.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
All documentation returned and presented.
Reporting is written at the level, where reader would almost be able to replicate the work based on the documenting.
Team is working towards its goals with support.
The progress of the work is weekly communicated to the owner.
Some theory is included in the reporting.
Team is able to run the trials needed during the project.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Student has excellent attitude towards learning new things.
All documentation returned and presented according to schedule.
Reporting is written at the level, where reader would be able to replicate the work based on the documenting.
Team is working independently towards its goals.
The progress of the work is actively communicated to the owner.
Relevant theory is included in the reporting.
Team can fluently handle all the equipment needed during the project
