Objective
The participants are able to plan and execute RDI projects and report them in a professional way. The participants are able to collect relevant theory and share it to others. The participant are able to consider the principles of sustainability in the project. The participants are able to work in self-orientated way and to form a self-organized team. The participants are able to communicate to project stakeholders in versatile ways.
Content
The students familiarise themselves with RDI project work. The students work in lab in teams (2-3 persons) with topical RDI issue. The students learn to communicate and present their progress in weekly project meetings. The topics of the projects cover materials processing and analysis related closely to current RDI-projects of TUAS. The course emphases project communication and presentation in oral and written form. Reporting on thesis form.
Issues: Materials processing or analysis methods based on topical RDI projects, communication, reporting and presenting, blog-text, thesis template.
Materials
The course will be held in English. Students gather their own material. Some material can be delivered during lessons.
Teaching methods
Learning methods are: project based learning, task based learning, learning by doing, research, literature study and web based materials.
Exam schedules
No exam.
International connections
The work is based on CDIO-method. The pedagogical practices are following: international studies, team learning, co-teaching, based on working-life needs, solution orientated project work and digi-learning.
The development work is based on sustainable development goals.
Completion alternatives
For individual implementation, please contact Liisa Lehtinen.
Student workload
The project consists of project plan, weekly reporting, laboratory work, presentations and final report.
The students measure their workload by keeping record of working hours. Total hours 5 x 26,7 h.
Content scheduling
Week 36: Start, Group formation, tasks
Weeks 36-50: Teams studies, group work, project meetings and presentations, project and laboratory work
Week 50: End of course, final presentations and feed back, return of final report
The students work in teams in projects that are based on topical RDI-activities.
Further information
The course consists of laboratory and groupwork. Therefore, the participation is oblicatory.
Evaluation scale

Assessment methods and criteria
The assessment is based on Project working and reports.
The assessment is based on Chemical Engineering's "Criteria of assessments" -document.
Final grade consists of:
Final report 40%
Competition evaluations 15 %
10 mins presentation 15 %
Long presentation 15 %
Final presentation 15 %
Laboratory work and general attitude towards (team)work +-1
Assessment criteria, fail (0)
One or more documentation is missing.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
All documentation returned and presented.
Reporting is written at the level, where the reader can figure out at general level the work that has been done in the project but could not replicate it.
Team is working towards goals but requires a lot of support.
The progress of the work is poorly communicated to the owner.
Relevant theory can not be found from the reporting.
Team is able to run the trials needed during the project.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
All documentation returned and presented.
Reporting is written at the level, where reader would almost be able to replicate the work based on the documenting.
Team is working towards its goals with support.
The progress of the work is weekly communicated to the owner.
Some theory is included in the reporting.
Team is able to run the trials needed during the project.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Student has excellent attitude towards learning new things.
All documentation returned and presented according to schedule.
Reporting is written at the level, where reader would be able to replicate the work based on the documenting.
Team is working independently towards its goals.
The progress of the work is actively communicated to the owner.
Relevant theory is included in the reporting.
Team can fluently handle all the equipment needed during the project.
