Objective

- Historical development of biomaterials in dental care
- Requirements for biomaterials and compositions of biomaterials in dental care
- Materials engineering properties of biomaterials and the main chemical reactions associated with the use of biomaterials
- Selecting the right material for restorative and prosthodontic care considering the load exercised by the masticatory system (strength of materials)
- The most important materials engineering properties of biomaterials
- Mechanisms of allergic reactions and side effects of biomaterials in the dental care staff and the patient
- Appropriate selection/treatment of materials in order to manage, eliminate or reduce the risks of allergic reactions and side effects of biomaterials in dental care

Content

Parts of the course can be implemented by the Department of Dentistry of the University of Turku
- gypsum
- manufacturing and testing of light cured resin
- seminar
