Tue 2.9.2025 Salo IoT campus 9:30-14:30 Study related matters, competences and qualifications of Bachelor of Social Sciences. Student health service FSHS will give you information about their services. Bring your ID card and information about the vaccinations you have received.

Participation in BoSS meetings is mandatory. Compensative assignment is required for absences.
Participation is mandatory due to the interactive learning methods used in the course. The contact teaching includes interactive activities, discussions, peer learning, and workshop activities. Participation in contact teaching supports the development of the student’s professional skills and interaction abilities.

In addition to BoSS 1 (2 ETCS) all students in PSOSS25EN enroll and participate in International Students Orientation 101 (1 ETCS) in first semester.

Objective

• you know how to operate as a student in Turku University of Applied Sciences, and you have sufficient higher education studies and working life skills
• you integrate into your study community
• you are able to evaluate your actions and take responsibility for your learning
• you are familiar with the curriculum of the Bachelor of Social Services degree, the competence requirements for Bachelors of Social Services, and the operating environments of and qualification criteria for social and education service professionals
• you can express yourself in writing and use different text types appropriately
• you understand the significance of internationality in your field

Content

• the facilities, systems and instructions of Turku University of Applied Sciences (incl. the degree regulations and safety instructions), the Digistartti course
• team building, the rules of your study group and being a member of a work and study community
• studying skills and innovation pedagogy
• the competence requirements for Bachelors of Social Services and the qualification criteria for social and education service professionals
• preparation of your personal study plan (PSP), the significance of your choices with respect to your career plan and development discussions with your tutor teacher
• working on your portfolio

Criteria for approved course
- Student is capable of operating in TUAS systems and understands their own role and responsibilities as a student
- Student shows understanding of professional work, competences and qualifications of Bachelor of Social Services
- Student knows the basic skills of referencing and academic writing
- All assignments and compensative assignments returned and approved
