Content scheduling
The course will cover the image-making processes of the most common relief and intaglio printing techniques, the professional working methods involved and the mastery of tools and materials. You will learn the practices of working in a printmaking studio. During the course, students will carry out a variety of smaller exercises and an independent artistic work. Students will practice the application and possibilities of their own visual expression through printmaking, working safely and ecologically. The student will actively participate in discussions, guidance and feedback on materials, methods and expression and will pass the assignments.
Student's working time is from Tuesday to Friday. Teacher is present mostly from Tuesday to Thursday 9–16. Includes also independent working when teacher is not present. It is very important to be present during teaching for learning and safety reasons. Always email teacher if you have to be away.
Every Tuesday there is meeting in class at 10. Put previous prints on magnet wall before meeting.
WEEK1
1.4. Tuesday starting at 9.30–16 introducing the contents of the workshop, talking about the methods, specially block printing, printing studio as an instrument, starting demos: sketch, mirror image, transferring image, gouges and tools, starting to work and how to maintain the class

2.4. Wednesday before noon always independent working to further one's progress
with teacher 12.30–16 printing: handling papers and printing inks, preparing working place, inking the plate with roller, handprinting, press, stencil, cleaning the roller and working place
3.4. Thursday with teacher 9–16
same as yesterday plus printing found object, grinding a test print, "cleaning monotypes", starting to plan color work
Fridays independently furthering one's own progress
WEEK 2
8.4. Tuesday at 10 checking last week's works, talking about the method, pigment transfer, printing with color: 1 plate method and multiple plates method, planning
9.4. Wednesday before noon always independent working to further one's progress
12.30–16 with teacher, registration, handling printing inks (transparent and opaque), preparing process and cleaning
10.4. Thursday 9–16 same as yesterday plus personal guiding in process
Fridays independently furthering one's own progress
WEEK 3
Tue 15.4. in printmaking class from 10 am to 4 pm program: color work 1 plate method and multi color work continues, free rolling, painterly gesture, unique drawing, discovery matrices other pulling print exercises
Lunch break at the appointed place
Wed 16.4. mornings 9-11 am independent work, each contributing to their own process
with teacher 12.30-16, background and transfer of woodcuts on thin paper, paste-up and process
Thu 17.4. with teacher 9-16, background finishing, other work continues to the end of the course
Fri is Good Friday Happy Easter, you are allowed to work at school, ensure opening hours and get weekend passes and organise your work space and clean up!
WEEK 4
Tuesday 22.4. in the printmaking class from 10 am to 4 pm: introduction to intaglio printing, talk about the method, printmaking class as an instrument, demonstrations on how to start working: sketching, mirror image, transferring image, offset printing, cutting and processing, drypoint, printing, using the press and preparing the paper, classroom maintenance tasks.

Objective
The student can
- use the tools and materials related to the methods in a professional and ecological way
- organise their working space rationally and appropriately
-basics of occupational safety and health in printmaking
- how to carry out printmaking independently and in a goal-oriented manner
- plan their own expressive and content-related work
- promote their ability to discuss their artistic work
- assess and measure the time required for artistic work.

during four weeks period students show they master the basics of professional working skills
Further information
Student is asked to get protecting gloves and other protecting garment. Student will buy printing papers, 6 mm plywood for relief printing (ask Jari Uusitalo in woodwork studio), copper for etchings.
