Content scheduling

The student receives information about the curriculum, study and support opportunities, and the necessary study skills.

This course introduces the Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO) model followed in ICT Bachelor of Engineering curricula and its application in engineering and technological disciplines. Students gain practical experience in conceptualizing and designing solutions for real-world challenges.

Practical Training (Basic, Field-Specific and Professional) is started with possibility to demonstrate of previous work experience.

Objective

By the end of this course, the student will:

understand the basics of the CDIO concept.
obtain foundational ideas of problem-solving skills and design thinking.
familiarize with usual ICT project management ideologies.
familiarize with basic concepts in software development.
familiarize with the curriculum contents and structure of their degree programme.
know the opportunities for accreditation of studies and recognition of competence, as well as for cross-institutional studying.
understands the importance of study skills and can assess their own areas for improvement.

Content

This course introduces the CDIO (Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate) framework with a specific focus on the 'Conceive and Design' aspects. Students will learn the principles of the CDIO model and its application in engineering and technological disciplines. Students gain practical experience in conceptualizing and designing solutions for real-world challenges. The student receives information about the curriculum, study and support opportunities, and the necessary study skills.

Pedagogic approaches and sustainable development

Course relies on active and regular participation in contact sessions.

Tasks 1-8 are opened during the lectures. Individual Tasks 9 is open from the beginning.

Attendance is recorded in the beginning of each lecture or tutoring session. If a student arrives after the attendance is closed, the student is marked as absent. If a student leaves before the session ends, the status is marked as absent.

All materials of this course are digital. In addition, student activity is monitored with online tools to reduce the carbon footprint caused by travel.

- info sessions 3 x 1h = 3h
- lectures 9 x 2h = 18h

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The final assessment of the course is based on:

1. active and regular participation in contact sessions: a student will fail the course if one has not attended 4 or more sessions

2. tasks given in contact sessions (1-8) returned in time and they are acceptable: 4 tasks must be completed with grade Accepted.

3. the independent task 9 completed with grade Accepted

Each task has its own criteria.

All requirements must be fulfilled to pass the course.

Evaluation methods and criteria

1. Active attendance
2. Task submissions according to the deadlines given.

Failed (0)

A student fails the course if any of the following conditions apply

- a student has not attended at least 4 lecture or tutoring sessions

- a student has not completed at least 4 tasks (1-8)

- s student has not completed the independent task 9
