Sisällön jaksotus

The course includes onsite lectures and laboratory work. The course starts week 36 and ends week 48.

Content:
-Electrochemistry
-Redox-reactions
-Primary cells and secondary cells
- Cell characteristics
-Types of storage systems
-Integration and applications of storage systems

Tavoitteet

After completing the course, student will

· have basic understanding of typical battery cell structures and chemistries
· evaluate how to selects suitable cell type for an application
· evaluate the safety concerns related to different cell types
· apply knowledge how individual cells are connected together to form a battery modules and systems
· understands the functions of a battery management systems and how the typical BMS implementations are done
· evaluate the operation of a battery charging systems
· apply knowledge for redox flow battery, fuel cell and flywheel based electrical energy storage systems

Laboratory assignment (50 % of the grade) and project work (50 % of the grade)

- Participation in the laboratory exercises and lectures related to project work are mandatory

- Homework assignments are not graded
- All homework assignments need to be completed

- Homeworks are not completed or returned.
- Presentation of project work results is inconsistent with no results
- Laboratory assignment not realized
- Test results below 50% of test points
- Total assessed points below 45% of total points

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1-2)

- Basic knowledges seen during lectures is applied in the project . Presentation is also basic but enough to display main results.
. Laboratory assignment realized. The initial tasks have been done and most of the measurements have been successful.
- Homeworks partly completed and returned.
- Test results over 49% of test points
- Total assessed points over 45% of total points

Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3-4)

- Basic knowledges seen during lectures is applied in the project. Presentation is well done and shows the commitment to realize this project with coherent results
- Laboratory assignment realized. All measurements have been successful and are clearly presented in the report.
- Most of homework completed and returned.
- Test results over 69% of test points
- Total assessed points over 65% of total points

Arviointikriteerit, kiitettävä (5)

- Application of all concepts seen during lectures are mastered. Presentation is well. Student group is making initiative and autonomous in the work
- Most of the notions seen during lectures is applied in the project. The report is thorough and illustrative and shows the interest to realize this project with exhaustive and correct results
- Laboratory assignment fully realized. All measurements have been successful and are clearly presented in the report.
- All homework completed and returned.
- Test results over 89% of test points
- Total assessed points over 85% of total points
