Autumn semester, August–September
Within this course, 1 ECTS credit is earned through an online module on the fundamentals of information technology required in later studies and professional practice. The second ECTS credit is earned through the online module Basics of Information Retrieval provided by the Library and Information Services. Both modules are available on the Itslearning platform.
Objective
In the Digital Skills in Dental Technology 1 course, students develop their digital and information management skills.
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Basics of information technology
- Basics of information management
Content
- Basics of Information Technology 1 ECTS
- Basics of Information Management 1 ECTS (online course organised by the library)
Materials
Itslearning platform and online
Teaching methods
The course progresses in the Itslearning environment in modular units, with short theory sections alternating with course assignments. Students engage with the topic through interactive materials and test their knowledge via quick quizzes or mini-exams that provide instant automated feedback. The overall design supports continuous, guided online learning and reinforces the student’s capacity for self-directed study.
Exam schedules
Students can retake the course’s micro-quizzes on the online platform while the module is open.
Pedagogic approaches and sustainable development
The course is delivered almost entirely online; consequently, its pedagogical structure rests on continuous, guided e-learning and the fostering of self-directed learning.
Student workload
The course workload is approximately 54 hours, of which about 52 hours are delivered online. The course covers
1) the fundamentals of information technology needed for later digital dental-technology studies and for professional practice
2) basic information-retrieval skills.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Pass
The student has completed and submitted all module micro-quizzes and applied assignments successfully by the course deadlines. They demonstrate sufficient competence in
- the fundamentals of information technology and their practical application
- information-retrieval skills
- a self-directed, well-organised learning process.
Fail
The student does not meet the above criteria: one or more module micro-quizzes or assignments remain incomplete or receive a failing grade, competence does not reach an acceptable level, or submissions are not completed within the course schedule.
Evaluation methods and criteria
Assessment consists of three components:
1) Mastery of IT fundamentals and their practical application
2) Basic information-retrieval skills
3) A self-directed learning process
Assessment progresses in step with the modules: each module ends with an automatically graded micro-quiz and/or an applied assignment. Quizzes may be retaken on the platform an unlimited number of times while the module is open. Once the student has successfully submitted and passed all module quizzes and assignments, the course is considered successfully completed.
