Sisällön jaksotus

- Reading and writing professional, field-specific texts
- Learning and using the key terminology of the field
- Presenting and discussing field-specific topics: business vocabulary, studies and work experience, applying for a job (application, CV and job interview), entrepreneurship and company operations

Tavoitteet

Opintojakson suoritettuaan opiskelijan tulisi osata

* kommunikoida tasolla B2 (CEFRL) sekä kirjallisesti että suullisesti
* tunnistaa eri viestintätilanteisiin sopiva kielellinen tyyli
* tuottaa selkeää, yhtenäistä ja jäsenneltyä tekstiä esim. sähköpostiviesti, raportti
* esitellä yksityiskohtaisesti alaan liittyviä aiheita
* keskustella ja argumentoida sujuvasti ryhmässä
* lukea pidempiä artikkeleita ja raportteja

Sisältö

Opintojaksolla kehitetään ja syvennetään opiskelijan alakohtaista englannin kielen osaamista erilaisissa työelämän suullisissa ja kirjallisissa viestintätilanteissa sekä ohjataan arvioimaan omaa osaamista.

Self-study, learning by doing, completing distance tasks, teamwork

No exam as the course is task-based and assessed based on successful completion of required assignments and active participation in weekly lessons.

- Flipped learning, work life oriented, task-based learning assignments, independent and small group study
- Sustainability is included in materials for discussions and reading.

Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat

- Similar Business English courses in other HEI's
- Accreditation of prior learning is possible, please contact the teacher before the course starts for instructions.

Opiskelijan ajankäyttö ja kuormitus

- Online teaching and students' individual and teamwork. This course is a 5-credit course, which is equivalent to 133 hours of student work.
- Weekly lessons (online)
- Written and oral distance tasks. Tasks that are completed in teams during the lessons.

Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet

- The assessment is based on distance tasks and activity in the Teams sessions (at least 70% presence).
- All the distance tasks have to be returned by the deadline. Returning them late can affect the assessment.
- Use of AI forbidden in the distance tasks to be returned.

NB:
- Absences cannot be compensated with extra work.
- If the student passes the course, it is not possible to raise the grade by redoing some of the assignments (as stated in the degree regulation).

- The student does not meet the criteria for grade 1.
- Assignments not returned according to the instructions
- Too many absences from lessons

Clear, detailed and descriptive phrases. Quite fluent but in parts jumpy

Excellent fluency, clear evidence of cohesion.
Evidence of competence in formal and informal style and an ability to adapt English for professional purposes.
Very few errors in grammar and spelling.
Vocabulary is excellent. Ideas are presented articulately. Evidence of wide lexis.

Oral skills:
Clear, smoothly-flowing fluency in a style appropriate to the context. Logical structure which helps the recipient to notice and remember significant points.
Evidence of competence in formal and informal style and an ability to adapt English for professional purposes.
Excellent command of grammar
Vocabulary is excellent and ideas are presented articulately. Excellent command of pronunciation.
