Sisällön jaksotus

After studying this course the student will be capable of performing the following:
- Apply various tools and instruments such as SWOT and PESTE analysis to make strategic decisions in an organization and thus, determine when a particular strategy is most appropriate to use
- Apply the knowledge gained in the course to formulate corporate strategy, implement and evaluate the entire strategic management cycle
- Determine when good ethics is good business in strategic management and apply this moral thinking in decision making.

Tavoitteet

The aim of the study unit is to give the student an overall picture of the managerial tasks in business. The students become acquainted with planning related to strategic management. Strategic management is tightly connected to the practical issues related to the organization development and the corporate social responsibility in all business activities. Accomplishing the study unit, the student can
- explain the purpose of strategic management
- make conclusions related to his/her own activities and a business strategy
- describe the connection between all business operations and responsible business management.

Opetusmenetelmät

The course is designed in a way that the student can do it from own location. The interaction with the teacher is mostly online. There are several Internet sources available for the student to get useful information.

Pedagogiset toimintatavat ja kestävä kehitys

The pedagogical approach taken in this course is rather independent study. Supplemental outside readings are provided to deepen the students understanding of the course. The versatile project based learning method is used through experiential exercises. The course is further illuminated by the applications of experiential exercises to give the students a real feel of business life.

Arviointimenetelmät ja arvioinnin perusteet

Evaluation will be based on two assignments, and the submission of the final group assignment. The student need to put a lot of effort in the assignments as this will form the basis of the student's grade.

The grading system ranges from 1 - 5 where;
1 = Mediocre; 2 = Satisfactory; 3 = Good; 4 = Very good; 5 = Excellent
Assessment based on successful completion of course assignments and self-reflection.

- limited understanding of key doctrines, thinking, and communication are hardly acceptable
- Appear to grasp legal terminalogies but unable to interpret the doctrines correctly

Good/Very Good
- knowledge of key legal doctrines, thinking, and communication are satisfactory and very good
- Understanding of legal issues and applicability but work could be stronger
- Demonstrate general understanding of legal terminalogies and application in real life context

Excellent:
- Mastery of the doctrines and penetrating insights in real-life context;
- Outstanding knowledge in legal issues, thinking, and communication
