Objective
Emergency care of surgical and trauma patient5 cr KIEHThe student shall be able to- describe the factors and situations exposing adults and elderly people to accidents and casualties, and learn about ways of preventing them- secure the environment, the patient and themselves in accidents and emergencies and know the basics of rescue techniques- learn how different co-operation authorities work in accidents and emergencies and understand the importance of collaboration- examine acutely ill patients and trauma patients, and know how to assess the urgency of emergency care and continued care- safely implement emergency care in support of the patient’s vital functions and to decide on the location for continued care of the patient according to the need and urgency of care- safely support, transfer and transport the patient- master the pharmaceuticals in emergency care and the various methods of pain management- guide the patient and their kin in preventing accidents and in care-related issues- document the emergency care needs of a surgical patient, to plan and implement the care and to assess its efficacy in the different phases of the process- describe the treatment episode of adult patients of different ages in surgical treatment, its premises, special characteristics and ethical requirements.
