Objective
The purpose of the course After completing the course, you will identify and be able to list the key players and future prospects in the financial sector. You will be able to give examples of legislation governing the sector and its controls. You will understand the key concepts of the banking and insurance business, earnings logic, profit generation and the business environment. You know the key functions, tasks and products of banks and insurance companies. Business competence: The student has a broad understanding of banking and insurance business and has key information about legislation and regulation related to the financial industry. The student has at least the prerequisites of a beginner for practical tasks in the financial sector. Operating in a workplace: The student understands the complexity of changing working life and own resilience in changing working life situations. Course competence You will identify and be able to list the key players and prospects in the financial sector. You will be able to give examples of legislation governing the sector and its controls. You will understand the key concepts of the banking and insurance business, earnings logic, profit generation and the business environment. You know the key functions, tasks and products of banks and insurance companies. You take responsibility for your own work and follow the given schedules.
Content
The course contents cover financial markets, legislation governing the industry, good banking practice, banks’ finances and profitability, sales of banking services, payment instruments and systems, financing, and asset management and investment services. Insurance business, insurance schemes, good insurance practice and ethical principles of insurance, legislation related to insurance, types of insurance companies, insurance marketing and customer service, and insurance products and contracts.

Teaching methods
Studying methods are activation, individual working, getting to know written material, knowledge tests, interaction through conversations, learning tasks, case study and learning diary. Guidance on Moodle. Feedback for developing course.
Exam schedules
Failed exam can be renewed twice (24 hours after last exam) before 23.11.2025. Approved exam can be renewed once before 23.11.2025.
Student workload
In the beginning of the course students shall make a timetable for studies. Orientation 10 hours. Building knowledge (information retrieval, learning materials, learning tasks, feedback) 105 hours. Course and learning evaluation 20 hours.
