Sisällön jaksotus
The course is implemented as a NONSTOP course, in which students progress according to their own timetable, following the instructions on the Moodle. The student's time is divided as follows: Familiarization with the Moodle platform 3 h The Moodle base of the course is divided into five different tabs, which the student will spend time studying: Basics of nursing; perioperative and emergency care 15-20 h Pathophysiology of disorders of basic body functions 20-25 h Patient health assessment 20-28 h Initiation of immediate care 20-28 h Anaesthetic care 20-26 h Prepearing to final exam 3 h Individual assignment, video-taped lesson 32 h Total 133 h A more detailed schedule is available in the Moodle learning environment.
Osaamistavoitteet
Students * deepen their understanding of the special characteristics and the process of the nursing care of a patient who is acutely or critically ill, injured or requires elective perioperative care * apply anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, as well as key patient care examinations, nursing interventions and infection control techniques in the context of perioperative, emergency and intensive care work *apply key patient care investigations and nursing interventions * plan, implement and evaluate in a sustainable, responsible and ethical manner and in multiprofessional cooperation, the individualised care of a patient who is acutely or critically ill, injured or requires elective perioperative care * support and professionally encounter the perioperative, emergency and intensive care patient, their family and next of kin

Multiprofessional clinical care process of the perioperative, emergency and intensive care patient; responsible assessment of a patient's care needs and priority of clinical care (triage); pathophysiology of basic organ dysfunctions; identification of basic organ dysfunctions and initiation of immediate treatment; care of the anaesthetised patient; pharmacotherapy, intravenous fluid therapy and (blood) transfusion therapy; basics of anaesthesiology

The student has the opportunity to request guidance from the teacher via email. The evaluation of the coursework (exams, tests, assignments) will be carried out by teachers Monday to Friday: Weeks 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, and 3/26. The course is delivered as Nonstop online studies. Using the Moodle learning platform, students study independently according to their own schedule with the help of various instructions, materials, assignments and tests. During the course, the student has the opportunity to request guidance from the teacher via email.

Student will progress through the Moodle learning platform via approved midterm tests and assignments towards the final exam permit. The exam permit will be available to students once they have successfully completed the required sections for the exam in the Moodle. The exam is taken in the EXAM system. If a student takes the exam before receiving permission to do so, the exam will be graded as failed and the student will lose one attempt. Below is the address for instructions on exam visits at different universities. https://exam.samk.fi/en/outgoing-exam-visits/ Student may choose to take only the exam, in which case they will be limited to an overall approved course grade of 1-3. If a student wishes to receive a higher grade for the course than the exam grade, they may also take a video-taped lesson, which may raise the exam grade by up to two grades. Course exam in EXAM: numerical assessment 0-3 Students may take the exam three times. This allows they to resit the failing grade. The student can make up a failed exam twice. An accepted performance cannot be upgraded. The student must receive an approved performance (grade 1-3) on the exam before they can submit the videotaped lesson if they wishes. Video-taped lesson: possibility of grades 4-5. This assignment may increase the grade of the passed exam by 2 grades. NOTE: If you take the course exam after 12.12.2025, you will not have the opportunity to do the video-taped lesson. Your exam will only be assessed after the end of the course. Completing the NONSTOP course requires time management and self-motivation. The recommended workload for student is 1 credit = 26.7 hours. The total workload for student consists of independent study on the Moodle learning platform (materials, assignments, tests, and exams) total 133 hours. This includes also the preparing to exam and and taking the exam in EXAM.

Students have a relatively good command of the content of the basic and intermediate professional courses. Students must have completed 120 credits in the nursing degree programme.
