Objective
The student gets to know better some different types of text. The student learns more about language in a daily life and work. The student follows discussions based on general knowledge and general experience and reads a wide range of texts, a few pages long. The student also gives some details about familiar themes and communicates about important personal interests. The student uses quite an extensive everyday vocabulary, some common expressions, and idioms as well as several different structures. The student effectively conveys familiar information in the most common forms of written communication. CEFR (Common European Framework Reference level) B1.1, effective basic language skill
Content
This course includes communication, expanding the vocabulary, new structures, and new types of texts. The focus is on different daily and work-related situations in different areas of the language. Grammatical themes covered include more demanding sentence structures and verb conjugation and declension. Communicational situations introduce the most practical and social situations as well as formal discussions. Themes include e.g. sustainable development, culture, history, society, global and current issues. The language of teaching is mainly Finnish. English is used as necessary.

Lessons on September - December 2025. 13 lessons and 1 exam. Lectures in teacher's HILL-room (online).

Teaching methods
The student becomes more familiar with different types of text and everyday and working life themes. The student is able to follow a discussion based on general knowledge and general experience and read a wide range of texts, a few pages long. The student can also tell some details about familiar things and communicate things that are important to them. The student is able to use a fairly extensive everyday vocabulary and some common phrases and idioms as well as several different structures. The student is able to effectively convey familiar information in the most common forms of written communication. Employer connections
The content of studying Finnish will help you cope in everyday situations and in the workplace in Finnish. In this course you will create your own video CV in Finnish.
Exam schedules
Lessons, presentation and exam schedule given on the first lesson. 13 lessons and 1 exam. Possibility to retake the exam if failed.
Pedagogic approaches and sustainable development
Moodle is used as support in teaching. HILL is used for lectures. Camera and simple video editing software, such as student's own phone, are used for creating a video CV.
Completion alternatives
If you have a higher education certificate of level B1.1, you can apply for recognition of prior learning in eServices. If you don't have a certificate but you have skills in Finnish in the B1.1 level, contact the teacher. RPL (AHOT) exam is possible in the beginning of the course.
Student workload
The student is expected to familiarise themself with the subjects of the lessons independently and actively construct their own language skills. About 108 hours of student work (30 hours lessons and 78 hours of independent work). Students must be present 75% of lectures.
