Objective

The course introduces especially the communication situations in pediatric care between the nurse and the child patient and the family. The course is especially suitable for nurses specializing in childcare work or for those otherwise interested in the subject.

Location and time

March - May 2025. TuniMoodle learning environment.

Materials

- Material in TuniMoodle (B2-taso) - Oppikirja/Study book: Karhumäki, M., Metsäportti, M. & Tuohimäki. Dear Patient - English for Nursing. SanomaPro 2017/2019. (optional)

Teaching methods

The course runs for eight weeks and consists of a variety of reading and writing activities. The teacher's support is available in the form of weekly instructions and reminders via Moodle. Weeks 10-14 will be teacher-led studying (weekly instructions and reminders via Moodle, instructing the activities, and commenting students' contributions. After that the students will have time to work on the assignments, the submission of which is by 30th April. Evaluation will be completed by 10th May 2025.

Exam schedules

Instead of an exam, students will compile a Portfolio during the course.

Student workload

3 ECTS credits = 3 x 27h = 81h student work. (This is an estimation as the time spent ot completing the course depends on the student's current level of English.) Assignments: - Moodle activities (discussion forum tasks, Flinga, H5P etc.) - The written assignment submitted at the end of the course (evaluated on a scale of T1-K5). - Oral video presenations (2-3minutes) at the end of the course (evaluated on a scale of T1-K5).
